National Cycling Organizations

  • Thunderhead Alliance - The Thunderhead Alliance is the national coalition of state and local bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organizations working in unison to break down the barriers to safe bicycling walking in North American communities.
  • League of American Bicyclists - Promotes bicycling for fun, fitness and transportation and work through advocacy and education for a bicycle-friendly America.
  • Adventure Cycling Association's nonprofit mission is to inspire people of all ages to travel by bicycle for fitness, fun, and self-discovery.

Connecticut Cycling Organizations

  • Elm City Cyclists - This group is a platform for discussion on how to make New Haven a more cycle-friendly city.
  • Sound Cyclists - Sound Cyclists Bicycle Club is a bicycle club centered in Fairfield County,  which was founded in 1977 to promote the general interest of cycling, to promote a cycling-related social forum and to encourage safe bicycling.
  • CTNEMBA - Since 1987, the New England Mountain Bike Association has actively supported the conservation of open spaces and our access to them. The organization monitors trail conditions, builds positive relationships with land managers, and gets people to important policy meetings
  • Bike New London - Dedicated to making New London a more bike-friendly city.

Regional Cycling Organizations

  • New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA) - NEMBA offers thousands of rides a year, has a great magazine loaded with events and info, and will help open the door to great mountain biking around New England!
  • Mass Bike - Better Bicycling for Massachusetts. As the only statewide (MA) bicycling advocacy group, MassBike works with legislators, government officials, and the media to make change at the state and local level.

Trails, Environmental, Smart Growth

  • 1000 Friends of Connecticut - 1000 Friends of Connecticut is dedicated to growing a healthy economy with choice in transportation, housing and education; and respect for farmlands, open space, natural and historic resources.
  • CT Smart Growth - Fighting sprawl and building communities!  The purpose of CT Smart Growth is to provide a way for grassroots community groups, state-wide organizations, sympathetic elected officials, and policy experts to come together to share information, educate ourselves about various issues, or just rant and rave if we want to. 
  • Farmington Valley Trails Council (FVTC)  promotes public awareness of the rails-to-trails concept and the Farmington Valley Greenway, while working with local municipalities to support the conversion of abandoned rail beds and canal towpaths into one of the premier contiguous multi-use trails in America.
  • CT Safe Routes to School - Safe Routes to School programs enable community leaders, schools and parents across the United States to improve safety and encourage more children to safely walk and bicycle to school.
