What is the "Bike Everywhere" Program?
In 2005, the Central Connecticut Bicycle Alliance organized as a 501(c)3 in order to advocate more effectively for better bicycling and pedestrian facilities. For more than six years, CCBA and its predecessor program, Bike to Work, have promoted cycling as a viable commuting option. We believe that the time is right to continue to expand the "Bike to Work" concept to a more universal "Bike Everywhere" approach in the Central Connecticut region.
The idea behind Bike Everywhere is simple: encourage more people to use their bicycles to travel many places where their cars now take them, like shopping, restaurants, visiting friends, and going to the movies, church and wherever else two wheels can go. We believe that such a program, which will include incentives for individuals that support the concept, can favorably impact the number of people who view a bicycle as a reasonable alternative to car travel.
Each Bike Everywhere event you participate in will give you a chance to win prizes when you pre-register or provide your information at an event.
So how do you get started? Check out our Bike Everywhere Calendar for a full list of events (it changes frequently so re-check often). Or just check out the 2 mile challenge and start running errands around your home by bike. We think you're going to find this fun!
If you or your organization would like to organize and promote a Bike Everywhere event or otherwise get involved in the Bike Everywhere program please let us know by emailing Ben Bare at tbare3@yahoo.com. Events can be big or small we are open to any idea that promotes the use of bicycles to travel for all purposes. Check the Events page under Bike Everywhere for events and frequent updates.
